The Desiderata

The Desiderata, Latin for “Desired Things“ by Max Ehrman copyright 1927.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful(“Be Careful”). Strive to be happy.

The Safest way to Search the Internet.

Image There is a program called “NoScript” that you can add to Mozzila Firefox and “ScriptSafe” for Google Chrome, that will let you decide who gets to interact with your machine.

If you only allow trusted websites in the allow list on the bottom right, you will only see what the Parent website has to to show you, i.e. the “domain name or web address you typed to get to the site”  is usually a hint that its OK. As long as your looking at trusted websites you are safe.

Nowadays, because of the revenue big companies get from ads and the tracking of peoples habits on the internet, you can have a whole list of unwanted programs trying to access your computer. You can download these great programs for Firefox and Chrome here….

Why people should stop using antibacterial soap.

hand-soapHello, I am here to tell you that you are harming yourself when you use to much antibacterial soap. If you look at the science of how soap works without all the extra bacteria killing agents it proves that all you need is just plain soap maybe with some extra moisturizers. Check out the chemistry here…

http://chemistry.about.com/od/cleanerchemistry/a/how-soap-cleans.htm

Soap in easy to understand  terms attaches to everything when wet and its slippery so it will let moister penetrate where it couldn’t before. With proper scrubbing you can get all dead skin and bacteria off without killing the good bacteria on your body. People used to scrape off the dirt with powders that attached to dirt and bacteria it works dry or wet. So if you wash regularly and save the antibacterial soap for the major times like, raw chicken handling i.e. “Salmonella poisoning” , you will be ok….. Stay clean my friends!

My Stern show email.

Hello, I’ve been a fan Since I’m 16. The year, 1996. I know the shows history and listen weekly. I Think the Stern show needs a blog of how each person feels whenever they’ve got something to say. Their should be a blog about the Stern Show, It’s an Epic piece of history. For me, it helps a 33 year old dad get a laugh at this fucked up world we live in. It’s good to see what hard work and perseverance can get you. It can get you half a Billion Dollar paydays ,that’s what! So in conclusion, Gentlemen I want to see a blog about what each member of the shown thinks about being  apart of the group that’s making history, on a truly magical show that touches many people.

P.S.To Mr. Stern, I like the interviews with Outliers that’s your greatest asset. Getting to talk to Great Men and Women of our time. It lets a guy like me see that to be Great in this world all you have to do is find what you love, then do it to the best of your ability. Thank you for your time.

My Mid-Life Crisis

I have been a Union Insulator for 15 years now and I make great money applying my craft to the fullest of my abilities . What I love the most is the engineering side of my job and Some of the people I work with very much. But, and It’s a big but, I want to be a writer.

I have been a “read for knowledge” type of person since I was a kid. We got our first computer, a top of the line IBM 386 business computer from my Moms work in 1986. I was 6 years old, by 8, I was installing more ram, a new hard drive, & a modem, over the phone with the IT head at the St. Louis branch of the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Ever since, I have researched technology and leaders of industry like a fiend. I started with magazines, papers, and books and evolved to the internet. Now I read blogs and websites on new exciting Industries and the ever evolving, old exciting Industries, foreign and domestic. I have always loved to search for new and mind blowing things that will make this world a better place. I read the blogs of the people that are out there in this world doing all sorts of Great things, in all sorts of Great places. They’re just trying to Better the world, by thinking and applying themselves to what interests them.

I have been laid off since Christmas and I have not been idle, I research and write everyday. I search for Technology, Industry, Business, Design, Engineering, Science, History and anything else that fascinates me on web sites like Stumbleupon, WordPress, & Tumblr, along with custom search strings on Google. I do this because, I feel like knowledge completes me and I think others feel the same way I do.

So why not read what other intelligent people have to say about what they’re going through. If I am so content, reading and writing about things that will make this world a better place, then why not do it for a living so that I can do it all the time. We only have a short time to make a difference, why waste it? Do what you love…… It’s a crazy world out there and I think it can only get better if people with talent don’t squander it. I look at life as a big series of problems that are begging to be solved. All you can do is use your abilities pooled with others of like mind, to solve them one good idea at a time.

I recently wrote Warren Buffet a letter asking his advice on what a guy with my abilities should do for a second job, that I can do in between projects. I got a response saying, “He doesn’t have time to respond to requests”, That’s because he’s busy doing what he loves, researching companies. I didn’t find that out until after I read his new autobiography “Snowball”. I probably should have read the book before I wrote him, He thinks new Tech is very risky.  Well, Mr. Buffet I think I’ve found out what I want to do. I want to write about my quest for knowledge while I raise my children to find what they love in life, and help them along their path to attain that knowledge! That’s all for now, Be Smart and Be Safe!

I don’t think there is anything more important than being a parent.

I have three great Kids Autumn(15), Collin(11), and Kaylee(8). I think I was put on this earth to do two things. Be a father and Make this world a better place, by solving problems one good idea at a time. The crazy part is I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. I live life by the seat of the pants, just trying to live and learn by solving any problems as they come down the pipe. It’s been a rough ride these past 33 years. But hey, what doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.

I guess the greatest thing that I’ve done right so far was my children. My kids love me just as much as I love them. I think that’s one of the most important things a person can do, is love their children. You have to show them the world and how cool it can be. Of course, you also have to show them the evils out there, so they can be prepared for anything that comes their way. (You should be the one to teach them, ’cause If you don’t, you don’t even want to think about who will.)

But above all, it is up to you to show them what makes this world a wonderful place to live in. No one is born with knowledge, so if your kids have to learn everything they need to live in this world, why can’t you be one of their teacher’s? (Trust me they are learning from you no matter what.) Notice I said, “one of their teacher’s”, that’s because it really does take a village to raise a child. You can’t teach them everything by yourself, but I say, let school teach them the boring stuff, and leave all the cool stuff up to me and family.

Since my kids where babies I’ve taken them to parks, museums, zoo’s, camping, float trips, bike rides, nature walks, Magic house’s, theme parks, beaches, pools, national monuments, and even Mc Donald’s play place, lol. It didn’t matter where we went we made it fun and learned something along the way. Sometimes the lesson we all learned had nothing to do with the place we went, but hey at least we learned something.

I don’t always have the extra money to pay for admissions to cool places, but I try to think of something just as cool to do even if we’re broke at the time. They are only going to be young once, and I want to enjoy their youth as much as they get to. I think that by doing things with my kids whenever we get a chance is teaching them how to have fun the right way.

I try to find really cool parks out of they way and then we will explore them like we are the first people to every discover it. I love taking the kids for long bike rides on paved paths through woods. We love to stop and explore the trails, to a kid it’s like an adventure.

When we aren’t going places, we play games of all kinds, board games, game systems, computer games, they’ve got some pretty cool games out there now-a-days, for all ages, even adults. It is important to get on a kids level, so they can get to know you as much as you get to know them.

If it’s nasty outside or all else fails we will search the internet, for videos or cool websites. My favorite “boring buster” is Stumbleupon.com. This website shows you cool sites by your interests. It takes you to the highest user rated websites pertaining to one interest or all of your interests at once. If you find a cool new site, you like it by giving a thumbs up, and you can also save it in a custom list for later. You talk about hours of entertainment, I can search the technology and history interest’s (2 of my favorites interest’s among others) for hours on end. When you put the kids in the mix look out, who knows what cool new website is going to pop up next.

You have to show them what’s cool out there and let them decide for themselves what they love to do. Once they know what they love in life, it’s up to you to encourage them to find out more about it. Show them how to search for the things that they love, that are fun, and make them feel good. Odds are, they will find someone else that loves whatever it is they’re into and then they’ve met a friend, and what’s better than doing something you love to do with a friend that loves it too.

To me, life is about being happy. And it’s so much more fun when your happy with friends and family than all by yourself. So if you have the chance, make your kids happy by do something fun. They’re only kids for so long, and it’s your responsibility to teach them to be the best they can be, so you might as well make it fun!

Hopefully when That final day comes for me, I’ve put more smiles on faces than I did frown’s. Good Night and God Bless!
